BDO Welcomes New Partners Effective July 1, 2013




The firm welcomes 16 BDO professionals to its partnership, effective July 1.

Ahmad Ejaz – Assurance, San Jose

Ahmad Ejaz joined BDO in 2005 as a manager and has more than 15 years of experience in public and private accounting. He has extensive experience working with private and public companies in a wide range of industries, focusing on the technology, semiconductor, software, manufacturing and consumer-based sectors. He has worked with companies in the development stage as well as large, multibillion dollar international companies. Ahmad has served many SEC companies and has assisted several in their initial public offerings. Some of his strengths include revenue recognition, business combinations, stock-based compensation, inventory cost accounting, financial reporting and SOX compliance.






Gautam Goswami – National Assurance, Chicago

Gautam Goswami joined BDO as an experienced manager in 2007. Gautam works as a national resource for the firm and consults on derivatives, hedging, equity and other complex auditing and accounting matters. Gautam also has significant experience in carrying out annual audits, quarterly reviews, specialty engagements and reviewing public filings of domestic and foreign filers in various industries. In addition, Gautam instructs on complex accounting topics and has authored various internal and external technical articles and publications. In 2011, Gautam commenced an approximately two-year practice fellowship with the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

Billy Hampton – Assurance, Raleigh

Billy Hampton joined BDO as an Assurance manager in 2010, having previously worked at a Big Four firm. He has more than 10 years’ experience serving clients in the software, technology, manufacturing, life sciences and nonprofit industries. Billy has worked with both public and private companies at various stages of development, from pre-revenue startups to companies with more than $3 billion in revenues. His public company experience includes assisting with initial public offerings and coordinating SOX implementation and compliance projects.

Kevin Jones – Tax, McLean

Kevin Jones joined BDO as Tax senior director through the combination with Argy in 2012. He has over 30 years’ experience counseling clients on the tax aspects of business transactions, and he has extensive experience negotiating and litigating tax controversies at the federal and state levels. He also has performed research and tax planning and implemented tax minimization strategies for business entities in a variety of industries. Once a law clerk at the U.S. Tax Court, Kevin has worked in law firms as well as accounting firms, including the National Office of a Big Four firm. Kevin is also on the board of The Tax Adviser, a publication of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Shawn Levesque – Assurance, Charlotte

Shawn Levesque, who joined BDO in 2009 as a senior manager, has more than 14 years’ experience in public accounting and in the private sector. His industry experience includes manufacturing and distribution, construction, retail, real estate and entertainment, including companies with significant international operations. In addition, he has experience with private and public debt offerings, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings. Shawn is well versed in SEC rules and regulations, and he has previously served as a certified learning leader for internal training sessions and as an office technical advisor.
Kacy Lutrick – Assurance, Dallas

Kacy Lutrick started with the firm 12 years ago. Her extensive experience includes planning, supervising and reviewing annual audits for both public and privately held clients, as well as coordinating the preparation of financial statements and compliance reports in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles, SEC and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board guidelines. She works with clients to identify, recommend and implement accounting and internal control improvements for management. Kacy has also worked on public and private equity and debt offerings. She has been heavily involved in BDO’s workpaper tool rollouts in CaseWare, Compass and APT.  She has also been involved in the training and development program locally and nationally as well as the internal inspection team.

Keith Mannor – Tax, Detroit

Keith Mannor joined BDO in 2009 as a senior manager and has significant tax compliance and consulting experience. He’s held roles in the Big Four as well as two multinational, publicly held companies, including an $8 billion manufacturing company where he led domestic tax planning, tax accounting and compliance. He has significant experience with accounting for income tax, carve-out financial statements and purchase accounting. Keith’s broad tax expertise includes FIN48, FAS123(R) and ASC 740, as well as federal, state and local tax compliance and planning for both private and publicly traded companies. He has served in a variety of industries including automotive, manufacturing, real estate and technology.

Kevin Muntter – Assurance, Grand Rapids

Kevin Muntter has 18 years of public accounting experience, all of them with BDO. He has been extensively involved with public and privately held manufacturing and distribution-related clients, including pharmaceutical and biotech companies, many of which are multinational. He also has significant experience in the insurance, nonprofit and governmental industries, including single audit compliance testing. Kevin has assisted clients with merger and acquisition services, such as joint venture arrangements. He is an instructor for BDO’s national and local office training for various audit-related topics, has been the lead recruiter for Hope College and sits on the finance committee for the Heart of West Michigan United Way.

Veena Parrikar – Specialized Tax Services, San Jose

Veena Parrikar joined BDO as a Transfer Pricing senior director in 2010 after spending 11 years with the Big Four and a smaller consulting firm. She has over 14 years of experience providing multinational companies with global transfer pricing services and has assisted numerous companies in Silicon Valley with transfer pricing planning and compliance, including supply-chain restructuring and IP valuation. Veena also has significant experience in negotiating unilateral and bilateral advance pricing agreements with the IRS for large multinationals, due diligence for merger and acquisition deals, IRS audit defense and global documentation. She currently also serves as the country coordinator for India, liaising with BDO India and facilitating services to clients with operations in India.

Jennifer Puterman – Assurance, Greater Washington, D.C.

Jennifer Puterman, who joined BDO in 2003 as a senior associate, has 13 years of public accounting experience, serving privately held and publicly traded companies of all sizes. Her industry experience includes software and technology, government contracting, biotech and pharmaceutical, manufacturing and distribution, and professional services firms. Jennifer assists clients with SEC ’33 Act filings and reporting requirements, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements and internal control effectiveness consulting. She helps develop training course materials and provides live instruction for the firm’s employees. Jennifer is also the international liaison for BDO France and acts as one of the firm’s sampling specialists.
Clark Schweers – BDO Consulting, Greater Washington, D.C.

Clark Schweers joined BDO in 2011 and leads the firm’s Insurance Claim Services practice with extensive experience advising clients on complex property and business interruption claims for insured businesses. Clark has assisted Fortune 1000 and mid-market companies in preparing and analyzing complex insurance claims. He has also conducted extensive work on international losses, and he has led engagements encompassing more than $1 billion in recoveries. He has significant experience in several industries, including consumer products and retail, chemical, hospitality, manufacturing and real estate. Clark has also been quoted and published on insurance claims and business interruption topics in several national and industry publications.


Ken Smith – Tax, Atlanta

Ken Smith joined BDO in 2011 as a tax senior director. He has 27 years of public accounting experience primarily in corporate tax, handling federal and state tax issues for multinational, multistate corporations. His work focuses on tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, federal tax accounting methods, compensation issues, research and development tax credit studies, and state and local tax planning and issues. Ken has worked with a range of clients in industries including technology and life sciences, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail, real estate, natural resources and healthcare.

Aaron Yamada – Tax, Los Angeles

Aaron Yamada, who joined BDO as an associate in 1999, has more than 13 years’ experience providing corporate tax planning and compliance services to publicly traded and privately held clients. He provides services to several large technology companies, assisting in tax provision, tax strategy and tax return preparation matters. Aaron has significant experience in multistate taxation and specializes in the preparation and review of his clients’ income tax provision under ASC 740 (FAS 109).


Brandy Arbuthnot – Tax, Dallas

Brandy Arbuthnot has been with BDO for 14 years, most recently serving as a Tax senior manager in Dallas. She has extensive experience preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns for corporations, partnerships and individuals including consolidated corporations and S corporations. Brandy is also knowledgeable of preparing and reviewing deferred tax calculations. She works with clients on IRS examination support and settlement of tax controversy matters. Her industry experience includes manufacturing and healthcare, as well as several multinational companies.


R. Matthew Cromwell – Assurance, Greater Washington, D.C.

Matt Cromwell has extensive experience performing audits and providing accounting and consulting services for nonprofit organizations. He has performed work in more than 20 international locations for nongovernmental organization clients. Other experience includes providing governance insight and commentary on adequacy of the client’s accounting and control function to audit committees; working with organizations with multiple nonprofit and for-profit entities; dealing with federal government appropriations and related accounting; analyzing and testing critical nonprofit audit areas, including alternative investments and endowments; and performing compliance auditing for organizations receiving significant federal and donor funding from multiple U.S. and European agencies. Matt joined BDO in 2009 after 15 years with a Big Four firm.


Mathew DeMong – Tax, Boston

Mat DeMong started with BDO as an associate eight years ago. Since then, he’s had experience with a variety of domestic and international public and private clients in the medical, technology, retail, manufacturing, private equity and venture capital industries. He has worked on multinational corporate and flow-through taxation as well as multistate filings, and he has served corporations and partnerships in tax planning for both federal and state income taxes. His areas of specialization include mergers and acquisitions, accounting for income taxes and tax accounting methods. Mat has also been an instructor at income tax training sessions run by Strafford Publications and the Executive Enterprise Institute, nationally and locally.
